For a woman to undertake employment is not in the spirit of Shari'ah, therefore Shari'ah has placed the responsibility of maintaining a woman needs on the man, so it is better to avoid it as much as possible.

Generally, there are a lot of evils in the employment of a woman, such as immodesty, mixing with non-mahram men and in some cases solitude. 

Also, casual conversation with them and transportation with non-mahram men, etc.

Obviously, this is not allowed in the Shari'ah, so it is better to get married and have her husband take care of her needs.

However, if there is no chance of getting married soon enough and the woman is in distress or in need of sustenance for herself, then employment can be taken within the permissible limits for subsistence, with the condition that the above-mentioned immoral issues controlled. The best form of employment for a woman is teaching young children. Again, if she can teach young children at her home, that is even better.

المرأۃ عورۃ فاذا خرجت استشرقھا الشیطن (ترمذی)

لعن اللہ الناظر والمنظور الیھا( مشکوۃ)

ان المرأۃ تقبل فی صورۃ شیطان وتدبر فی صورۃ شیطن (مسلم)

ذکر فی مجالس الابرار ’’فالمرأۃ کلما کانت مخفیۃ من الرجال  کان دینھا اسلم لماروی انہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم قال لا بنتہ فاطمۃ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنھا ای شئی خیر للمرأۃ قالتؓ ان لاتری 

رجلا ولا یرھا رجل (وھکذا فی فتاویٰ رحیمیہ : ۹ ؍ ۲۱۷ ، ۱۰؍۱۹۲)
