There has been a misunderstanding between families, and my mom's feelings were hurt. I am trying to amend the families and ammi does not want to talk to the person because the person is younger and is saying that she should reach out, but does not want to reach out herself. I understand that my ammi is correct, but I am trying to have ammi forgive the person and try to make things right. Please let me know what is the best way to approach this, thank you!

It is important to know the detailed situation for appropriate measures and a good opinion, and obviously your message did not include those details. Therefore, it is very difficult to give an opinion.
However, the best we may suggest at this point is for the elders to be kindhearted and generous towards their youngers and try to carry them along in the same path.
Spaciousness and gentleness of heart are among the best virtues, which have worldly as well as benefits of the hereafter.
In any case, o ne party has to give-in to resolve the issue, so if the younger ones do not move forward, it is their bigotry and narrow-mindednes.
In fact, the older ones have a greater responsibility. If they take the first step, it will not belittle their position and status, but will rather increase it God willing. They will actually be setting a good example for others.
