There are both types of narrations documented regarding Hazrat Ameer Muawiya RaziAllah Ta‘ala Anhu. However according to the documentation in the book “Hazrat Muawiyaؓ”, Hazrat Mawlana Mufti Taqi Usmani مدظلہ العالی writes:

“Heؓ accepted Islam openly after the conquest of Makkah but in reality he had reverted to Islam even before that and due to some difficulties he did not express it openly at that time.”

The famous historian Waqidi has reported: 

“Heؓ had accepted Islam right after the Sulah-Hudaibiyah however he hid this fact until the day of the conquest of Makkah.”

Hazrat Ameer Muawiya RaziAllah Ta‘ala Anhuhimself has described the reasoning behind hiding his Islam and expressing it openly at the time of the conquest of Makkah, therefore the learned historian Ibn-e-Saadhas stated:

“Hazrat Ameer Muawiya RaziAllah Ta‘ala Anhu used to say that I had reverted to Islam before Umrahtul-Qadha however was scared of going to Madinah because my mother told me that if I went to Madinah she will cut off all of my basic living expenses.”

Due to the above mentioned issue and other difficulties, heؓ announced his reversion to Islam along with his father at the time of the conquest of Makkah.

Heؓ is amongst the greatest companions of Rasulullah Sallallaho Alyhi Wasallamas he received the honor of spending time in the most blessed company of Rasulullah Sallallaho Alyhi Wasallam. This in itself is such a level and stature and obviously how can one become a companion without reverting to Islam. He was part of that supreme group of the beloved companions of Rasulullah Sallallaho Alyhi Wasallamwho were chosen for the great task of documenting (writing the text of) Quran. In addition, Hazrat Ameer Muawiya RaziAllah Ta‘ala Anhu was tasked for writing the letters for Rasulullah Sallallaho Alyhi Wasallam. At one occasion, Rasulullah Sallallaho Alyhi Wasallam made dua for Hazrat Ameer Muawiya RaziAllah Ta‘ala Anhu in the following words:

اللھم اجعلہ ھادیًا مھدیا واھد بہ

And at another occasion in the following words:

اللھم املاہ علما

واللہ اعلم بالصواب
