Question
Assalaamu Alaikum,
What is the Islamic ruling on the business of soft toys especially octopus, teddy bears, birds, stuffed animals, plushies, etc? Is it completely haraam or Makruh? Please also elaborate what will be consequences separately if it is haraam or Makruh in terms of Akhirah. Lastly, since I have already started the business, what should I do with the profit?

الجواب وباللہ التوفیق
بسم اللہ الرحمن الرحیم
It is not permissible to trade in dolls and toys which have the image and shape of a living beings. It is narrated that if Hazrat Mohammad (SAW) saw anything with pictures of living beings on it, He (SAW) would break it. Therefore, it is not permissible to take pictures, save them, and to buy and sell things with pictures of living creatures when the primary intention is having the picture itself, to attract sales.
Such a person will be subjected to divine punishment in the hereafter. Therefore, adopt a lawful and halal source of livelihood. As for the benefit gained from it, it is “makrooh”. If you are in dire need, you can use it, otherwise donate it in charity.
عن عبد اللّٰہ بن مسعود رضي اللّٰہ عنہ یقول: إن أشد الناس عذابا عند اللّٰہ المصورون۔ (صحیح البخاري ۲؍۸۸۰، صحیح مسلم ۲؍۲۰۱)
عن ابن عباس، عن أبي طلحة، رضي الله عنهم قال: قال النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم: «لا تدخل الملائكة بيتاً فيه كلب ولا تصاوير»". (صحيح البخاري 7 / 167
عن نافع، أن عبد الله بن عمر، رضي الله عنهما أخبره: أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قال: " إن الذين يصنعون هذه الصور يعذبون يوم القيامة، يقال لهم: " أحيوا ما خلقتم". أیضاً.
اشتری ثورًا أو فرسًا من خذف للأجل استئناس الصبي لا یصح ولا قیمۃ لہ۔ (الدر المختار) وفي الشامیۃ: قولہ من خزف أي طین، قال: قید بہ؛ لأنہا لو کانت من خشب أو صفر جاز إتفاقا فیما یظہر لإمکان الانتفاع بہا۔ (الدر المختار مع الشامي، کتاب البیوع / باب المتفرقات ۷؍۴۷۸ زکریا)
