Question: Used Vehicle Warranty

ID: 1513

Name: Dealings and Transactions

I recently bought a used vehicle at a Dealership. When buying the vehicle they offered me a bumper to bumper warranty of $2,700. If after a few months I am not satisified they can re-imburse me the rest of the money. I told them that I had to do my own research before getting back to them. Is this used vehicle warranty permissible now since I have already bought my vehicle? Can I go back to the dealer and buy it? Or since it was not bought at the same time as the vehicle it is not permissible as it is a seperate transaction and insurance is not permissible.

الجواب وباللہ التوفیق

Insurance is haraam, it is necessary to avoid it as much as possible. But under a legal compulsion, there could be an allowance for that, only to the extent of its requirement. Since Third Party Insurance is generally sufficient in most situations, therefore the extent of warranty coverage should be limited to that only. Accordingly; bumper-to-bumper warranty will not be permissible.
